This is a very simple pattern for a basketball.  The baseball picture was filled with polyester fiberfill.  But, it can also be made by putting a tennis ball inside of it.

F crochet hook
Tennis ball or Polyester Fiberfill
Tapestry needle

BASEBALL:

IF INSERTING TENNIS BALL, WHILE HOLDING IN PLACE, CONTINUE TO CROCHET AROUND IT.  YOU MAY NEED TO PULL YOUR FINISHED WORK TIGHTLY TO GET IT TO COVER TO COMPLETELY.
Rd 17: Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog) around, slip st in first sc.  (24)
Rd 18: Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) around, slip st in first sc.  (18)
IF YOU ARE STUFFING THE GREAT BALL, THIS WOULD BE WHEN YOU WILL BE ADDING TO THE STUFFING.  CONTINUE STUFFING TO ACHIEVE DESIRED FIRMNESS.
Rd 19: Ch 1, turn; (sc in next sc, sc2tog) around, slip st in first sc.  (12)
Rd 20: Ch 1, turn; sc2tog around, slip st in first sc.  (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Weave tail through sc of Rd 20, pull tightly, and secure.  Weave in ends.

STITCHES:
With black, embroider lines on BASKETBALL.
